NawiaCybernetyka is a musician-focused, musician-run maker of audio manipulation tools designed to support creativity and inspiration.

Nawia (pronounced “Navia”) is the root system of the Cosmic World Tree of Life in Slavic folklore. We people, our pets, our houseplants, all the trees outside, beasts, bees, and fish, among other things, live in the mortal plane, situated in the trunk of the great oak. Above, outward branches the crown of the Tree, the domain of birds, the sky god Perun, and celestial objects. Nawia composes the underworld, home of the god Veles and realm of the dead, rested and restless spirits, and chthonic critters, its roots forming a connection to our ancestors.

Cybernetics, a word first used by mathematician Norbert Wiener in 1948, is the multidisciplinary application of communication and control in systems. Systems refer not only to machines, but also to lifeforms and social structures. It can even be a way to think about self-determination — action driven by motivation, spawning consequence, which in turn influences motivation — as a biological self-oscillating feedback loop.

Music is an expression before anything else, and expression is communication. The countless hours an artist spends honing a skill on their instrument are all in the service of greater control. Control of the instrument, yes, but more importantly control of the body operating the instrument. The craft of music is itself a branch of cybernetics.

As an instrument is an augmentation of the body, the signal chain from the instrument may be further augmented by electronic manipulation. The limits of this manipulation are defined by our ability to refine our control of machines. NawiaCybernetyka harnesses the chaos and wisdom of the underworld into machines for you to create new forms of expression.
